13th October 2017 - By Ahmed Khalifa - Tagged With: personal branding, personal development

In this episode, I talk about the importance of…you’ve guessed it…persistence.

It’s a small thing that can have a dramatic impact in your life. Without it, you will not be able to become an expert, a specialist, the go-to person.

Without it, you will not grow, you will not inspire and you will not change your life.

And here we go!

The IgniteRock Podcast where one week I interview those who are doing awesome stuff with WordPress and the other week I share some tips and advice on making the most out of your online business and career. Thank you for tuning in. And now, let’s get straight on to the show.

And here we go everyone, this is episode 30 of The IgniteRock Podcast, and I can’t thank you enough for joining me today and I really do appreciate it. And today is going to be a good one, because in this episode I want to bring up a topic that I’ve talked about at the beginning of this year in 2017., where I have written a blog post on my website about the importance of persistence, especially if you feel like nobody is reading your content. And I’ll put the link in the show note and you should have a read at it, it’s really good, if I say so myself.

But, I wanted to bring it back up again and also use my own personal experience where I can show you what persistence had done for me, and also what it can do for you. And really, five points I want to cover so let’s just get straight into it.

Number one is that you will grow. When you focus on a particular theme, or topic or idea, you tend to kind of research as much as possible and you learn as much as you can about it along the way. And on that journey, you tend to grow the person as well you grow an expert as well. And even more so, when you start practising  what you preach and you have then grown into a kind of a credible source with authority … so that journey really does make you grow. And I can know that from my own experience as well.

Even though you might not see it, you will have grown into a person that other people aspire to be or look up to or need something from you that you have, because you have learned it along the way. And using my own experience, the journey of running my own business, it has made me grow as a person and I have learned a lot, I have become a different person for the better and I’m still going that direction, I’m still growing, I’m still moving forward and, you know what, that is because you persist. That’s because I persisted.

Number two is you are a specialist, and not that you are an expert, you are the go to person for that particular field, for that particular topic. And in certain situations, it is good to be a jack of all trades, but you know what they say, a jack of all trades, a master of none. So, not that you are an expert, you are a specialist, you are the go to person for that particular topic, for a particular problem. And for me personally, the fact that I focus on digital marketing, or I tend to focus a lot on WordPress, well that’s because I have been doing that for many, many years.

And that is because I have persisted. And of course, I enjoy it as well. But really, I have persisted, I’ve kept on going and become a specialist in that area.

Number three is that you have widened your skill set and at the beginning of anything you do, you’re not going to be good at it. There’s always a first time for everything, no matter what you do. But with persistence, along with some trial and error, with experimentation and a bit of practice along the way, you keep on going…you will get better.

An example is my earlier podcast episodes. Even though this episode is 30, the earlier one that I’ve done, I don’t it’s that great, I think it’s pretty rubbish actually, and I cringe at it. But I think I have gotten a bit better now, and that’s because I have persisted. Same thing with my blog posts, the earlier ones, I feel like they’re weak. But, I think I got better at writing, and you know why? That’s because I persisted. So don’t give up.

Number four is that you have build up a resource, just like an online library. When you are growing and when you are becoming expert and specialising in the topic, you tend to have created a lot of content online, a lot of blog posts, podcast episode, it could be videos, it could be presentation, researches, interviews, surveys. And over time you have accumulated a huge resource for anyone to access. And that can also act like your virtual sales tool, as I say.

Because it will kind of sell you to your audience about who you are, about your credibility. And it enhances your credibility, it enhances your expertise. And not only will it happen because you have persisted, you have gone on and on and on, on creating those contents and you have persisted on becoming expert and you become a specialist in that area, they all connect each other. They either link to each other, and again it’s because you have persisted.

And number five is that you are an inspiration, and this is, a really nice thing talking about. If you don’t really think that you are an inspiration, I disagree entirely. Over time, you will have reached a few people because of who you are, but at the same time, people will have also reached out to you because of who you are. You don’t have to be world famous to inspire people. You can inspire the minority, and that can be very, very powerful as well.

It is better to inspire a hundred people than to kind of get one million people have some kind of interest in you. I would rather have the other way, it is definitely better to have inspiring the minority than have a huge uninterested following. And again, as I said before, that is because you persisted in becoming who you are today.

And that’s it, that all I wanted to talk about really, just the importance of persistence, and how much it can do to you, how much influence it can have on your life, on your career, on your business, just about anything. So, if you feel like you are kind of stuck or hit kind of a dead road maybe or stuck in a rut kind of thing, don’t give up, keep going, keep going. The consistency is also key, but you have to kind of really fight for it, you have to be persistent and keep on going, because you will get some kind of reward in the end.

And even if you felt like, at the end your business has failed, or something else had gone wrong, it doesn’t mean that is has all gone bad, because at the end of a day, as I’ve mentioned before, you will grow as a person. And this skill set that you have developed because you persisted along the way will become useful in the long-term as well. So don’t give up, keep going.
